Since forming in 2000, Soul Contention have established themselves as one of Melbourne’s leading cover bands. They have performed for major events such as the Southbank New Year’s Eve celebration and the annual Twilight Rhythms in the Fitzroy Gardens, and have entertained major corporate companies at Melbourne's most prestigious venues. Their energy, reliability and fantastic sound have sustained a five year residency at ‘Manchester Lane’ in Melbourne’s CBD.



Soul Contention has extensive experience playing at wedding receptions. Guests won't expect to hear a ten-piece band with a horn section and three vocalists at a wedding! The band plays classic 60s soul standards by artists such as Wilson Pickett, Aretha Franklin, James Brown, Stevie Wonder, Sam & Dave, Ike & Tina and the list goes on. These songs are familiar to both young and old, so whatever the age of your guests, you can be sure they will be up and dancing right through ‘til the midnight hour!



When a couple books Soul Contention for their wedding reception, they can rest assured that the band will look after all aspects of the music and sound. They have a qualified audio engineer who provides the equipment and sets it up prior to the arrival of guests. In addition to the 10-piece band, other options are offered such as an MC to make any announcements and introduce speeches, CD music which can be played between band sets, a cordless microphone if required for speeches, band involvement with the “tossing of bouquet” and “removal of garter” and more. The band will cater to the individual and unique requirements of each couple.
